Now….I really have been sitting on these products for too long!
However, I feel as though the time I’ve taken using these products will really help to give you all an accurate idea of how they worked for me and my loopy corkscrew curls.
Over the years, Motions has undergone a total branding overhaul and has really gotten to know us naturals and our specific needs in a post-relaxer world.
They know what we ultimately want in our curly regimes…..and they also seem to know our naughty rebellious curly girl tendencies! (I do not know a single natural who threw her GHD’s in the bin after transitioning……*sips tea*)
So I was very intrigued and happy to be trying out two of their products from their Natural Textures line. The Pre-wash Detangling Butter and Enhance & Define Versatile Texture Defining Cream….
Motions Enhance & Define Pre-Wash Detangling Butter for Natural Textures
Water (Aqua, Eau), Cetearyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Glycerin, Behentrimonium Chloride, Fragrance (Parfum), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Benzyl Alcohol, Dipropylene Glycol, Lactic Acid, Amodimethicone, Potassium Chloride, Disodium EDTA, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, PEG-7 Propylheptyl Ether, Cetrimonium Chloride, PEG-180M, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Honey (Mel, Miel), Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Bambusa Arundinacea Stem Extract, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Amy Cinnamal, Benzyl Salicylate, Coumarin, Hexyl Cinnamal, Limonene, Linalool
Now out of the two of these products, the pre wash detangling butter was definitely my favourite.
I really liked applying the butter to my curls before I washed my hair as I did find that it prevented the shampoo from fully stripping moisture out of my curls during the process.
The smell was very pleasant and the texture was very silky and thick. This made detangling an absolute breeze and I definitely noticed much less hair in the brush than usual after good comb through.
I liked using this product after jumping out of the swimming pool. Every Friday, (on my day off work), I take my son to the pool and teach him how to swim. As you can imagine, my hair gets absolutely drenched with chlorine water and becomes very dry and brittle. Applying the pre wash detangling butter after I get out keeps my hair hydrated before going home and washing the chemicals out of my hair.
Whilst I was very impressed with the product for those reasons, I also have to admit that I don’t particularly like using silicone based products as a pre poo. I personally think that they may prevent the shampoo from being able to properly cleanse the hair and remove build-up. Although I didn’t find it to be the case for this particular butter, it’s still not a product that I’d use too often.
I’d have to rate this product 7/10.
Motions Enhance & Define Versatile Texture Defining Cream for Natural Textures
Water, Glycerin, Mineral Oil, Oleth-2, VP/NA Copolymer, Methoxy PEG/PPG-7/3, Aminopropyl Dimethicone, Parfum, PEG-90M, Coconut Oil, Panthenol, Butylene Glycol, Avocado Oil, Shea Butter, Olive Oil, Argan Oil, Honey….
Now the ingredients list was so long, I had a hard time writing it all down…..so I just added the highlights.
This product has without a doubt the longest ingredients list I’ve ever seen!
Its worth noting that my fine curls get weighed down very easily. So usually mineral oil is a strict deal breaker for me…….however, I did manage to find a use for this product!
I did a Curlformers set for some beautiful spiral curls and used the Versatile Texture Defining Cream to help lock in the moisture and set the curls afterwards.
One of the good things about mineral oil is that it is the ultimate sealant. Even though it completely blocks any further moisture from entering the shaft……it makes damn sure that no moisture gets out afterwards either!
This is something you mostly definitely want when doing things like roller sets, twist outs, blowouts, etc as it prevents moisture from the atmosphere reverting your curls to their natural texture without the use of any heat. This helps your style last for much longer too.
The smell again was very pleasant, like the rest of the natural textures line. The texture was very thick yet gluey too, although this does sound slightly unpleasant, you can definitely feel the product providing hold as you apply it to the hair.
All in all, I rate this product 6/10.
