I was sent this product a little while ago now and I’m very happy to be finally reviewing it for you now!
This is the first British brand targeting “mixed race hair” and if you ask me….it will be one of the first of many! (not to say that it’s not for all other types of hair and races!)
The sleek packaging and luscious conditioning cream has all the makings of a trailblazer and I was very excited to see whether the Confident Curling Cream lived up to it’s promises!
So first off, lets look at the ingredients:
Aqua, Propylene Glycol, Glycerin, Shea Butter Ethyl Esters, Argan Oil, Olive Fruit Oil, Polyquaternium-37, Parfum, Flame Tree Extract, Baobab Seed Oil, Marula Seed Oil, Cycopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Cedarwood Bark Oil, Carrot Seed Oil, Soybean Oil, Tomator Fruit Extract, Ferment Extract, Rice Extract, Keratin Amino Acids, Acyl Coenzyme A Destaurase, Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, PPG-1 Trideceth-6, Sorbitan Oleate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Coumarin and Benzyl Benzoate
The ingredients are very interesting indeed! The only other product I can really liken this curling cream to is Mixed Chicks Leave In Conditioner, which as I mentioned in my previous article on seasonal curly hair care, works better for me in the transitional Spring and Autumn months.
I found exactly the same with the MAYA curling cream…..I was sent this product back in the summer months and unfortunately, I didn’t warm to it at first.
However……knowing full well that my hair likes to change behaviour depending on the climate, I decided that it was a better idea to really trial this product around September time as the temperature and humidity began to drop.
My instincts were right!
My hair adored this curling cream as autumn/fall began to creep in. This curling cream really does provide curls with awesome curl definition and hold with a slight glossy finish.
My curls felt incredibly moisturised and were able to maintain a good wash and go for a few days.
What I have to add here is that the curling cream was not entirely weatherproof. My curls still frizzed up and lost definition on the days where it drizzled and rained (typical Autumn weather!).
However, the only products which would probably prevent frizz in these instances would be ones containing heavy silicones such as Dimethicone, which is something that I do not want in my daily stylers and moisturisers.
The packaging is stunning and very differentiating from all the other natural hair care products out there right now (especially in comparison to other British brands, where products tend to go for more of a Mother Earth vibe).
I really loved the pump feature of the bottle, it was really easy to get a good amount of product with one “squirt” (I hate that word….it just sounds dirty!) and due to how thick and spreadable the curling cream was, only three pumps was needed to cover all of my hair. Meaning that the conditioner has lasted me quite a long time!
The smell was absolutely divine! It smells like a kind of caramel musky perfume (MAYA would be on to something if they came out with an Eau De Toilette/Parfum of this fragrance….it’s that good!). Scents are a very big thing for me when it comes to hair products, so this was a great touch for me!
Overall, I was very happy with this curling cream. I would have to rate it a solid 8.5/10
